The Republican candidates seeking the presidential nomination have cleared out of Iowa and New Hampshire, where the first two primaries were conducted in a largely gentlemanly fashion, and are headed for the next contest in South Carolina, which by contrast – say the pundits – promises to be “a bloodbath.” But how different can it really be?
