The point is to learn technical knowledge and skills of skiing that lead to changes in behavior that affect the quality of your life; theoretical knowledge, in contrast, may have little, if any, impact on how you live life in the world from day to day. In letting go of self-centered reactivity, a person gradually comes “to dwell pervading the entire world with a mind imbued with loving kindness, compassion, altruistic joy and equanimity”. The transformation involved in the study and practice of skiing is as much affective as it is cognitive.
