President Trump delivered a commencement address at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Saturday — “because who better to inspire new members of our military than a draft dodger?” Stephen Colbert joked on Monday night’s “Late Show.” But it was Trump’s slow descent down the stage’s ramp that had people talking, leading the president to tweet defensively:

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is “fall” for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!

“Whoa, is that President Trump or The Flash? Slow down, Usain Bolt.” — SETH MEYERS

“You know, for a guy who constantly talks about how tough he is, he sure walks like a baby deer on a frozen pond.” — SETH MEYERS

“I watched that and for the first time thought, ‘[expletive], maybe he does have bone spurs!’” — SETH MEYERS

“Wow, so liberals, young people, and women hate you, and now we have to add ramp designers to the list. OK, so let me get this straight: the ramp was long, steep, and slippery? It was a Slip ’N Slide. You think the West Point ramp was a Slip ’N Slide.” — SETH MEYERS

“Now we know why he launched his 2016 campaign coming down an escalator. If it’d been a ramp, he’d still be coming down.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

“That’s not running, bud. that’s what you do when you realize someone’s holding the door for you and you’re still a few steps away.” — SETH MEYERS

“Final 10 feet he ran down? No, he did not, and the idea that the ramp was slippery seems suspect considering there was not a cloud in the sky.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“We can only hope he steps down that gracefully after November.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“Yep, that’s about the only momentum Trump has right now.” — JIMMY FALLON

”He was just doing an impression of his approval rating.” — JIMMY FALLON

“That was still faster than his response to the coronavirus.” — JIMMY FALLON

“All of this over a slow walk down a ramp when there are so many other things to focus on from Trump’s address this past weekend, like the way he drinks water.” — JAMES CORDEN

”He broke his first Fitbit record of 10 steps.”— JIMMY FALLON

“But you can’t blame him. any time he’s around the military, those damn bone spurs act up.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

“It would be faster if he sat at the top and did a butt-scooch down.” — JIMMY FALLON

Trevor Noah opened Monday night’s “Daily Social Distancing Show” with a segment on Rayshard Brooks and the facts around his death at the hands of the Atlanta police over the weekend.
